How To Clean A Salt Cell

In this Pool Care Basics Video, we discuss how to clean a salt cell. This is common maintenance for any pool owner with a salt chlorine generator. A salt cell will need to be cleaned every 3-6 months.

Symptoms of a Salt Cell That Needs Cleaning

  • Low Chlorine Level
  • Error Codes or Indicator Lights on the Control
  • Calcium Flakes Near Pool Returns
  • Calcium Build-Up Inside Cell

Note: We use a Hayward Aquarite salt cell in the video but the same instructions can be applied to other brands.

In order to prevent calcium build-up on the salt cell, we recommend maintaining the pool at a pH level of 7.4-7.6. We also recommend using a product like Scale Free by Natural Chemistry or Magenta Stuff by Jack’s Magic. Those products will help keep the cell blades clean and prolong the life of the salt cell.
